stephen-king-doctor-sleep-movieThere are currently so many different Stephen King properties in some sort of active development in hollywood at the moment spanning all available methods of media its hard to keep up with all the different news.
Hulu has its TV series 11.22.63 based on the King novel of the same name, while movies such as The Dark Tower, It, and Revival – even rumblings over the years about progress being made on a prequel movie to King’s The Shining (titled Overlook Hotel) – though that project is not based on any King original novel., but may be possibly taking some liberties from the rare, little know, King prologue titled “before the play” which was officially excised from the original manuscript.
Shinning, which itself has had two very different adaptions by hollywood, first the classic film starring Jack Nicholson and directed by master filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and the 1997 television miniseries which was created from a Teleplay written by King himself and which was a more accurate depiction of Kings original novel.
Now Tracking Board is reporting that Akiva Goldsman has been tasked with adapting Doctor Sleep, the 2013 sequel to King’s the for the big screen for Warner Bros. Pictures, with producers Jon Berg and Jon Gonda.  Currently, there is no director attached to the project, nor does WB have a release date.  Goldsman, who picked up his Oscar for penning his frequent collaborator/director Ron Howard’s John Nash biopic A Beautiful Mind, has a vast body of genre screenwriting work having worked on everything from ’90s superhero movies (Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) to post-apocalyptic thrillers (I Am Legend, The Divergent Series: Insurgent) and Dan Brown mystery/thriller book adaptations (The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons).

X-men Apocalypse major details on main villain inside!

What does Apocalypse want and why?

Singer explained:

“He believes with his heart that order is the only thing that’s going to save humanity, and he will provide that order at any cost… and for a person who begins as a unifier and then grows in power – What’s the old expression about power? Power does what? And what does absolute power do? Things just never go right, so that civilization goes down and he starts a fresh one.“In this movie, something happens, he thinks he’s figured it out finally. ‘Oops,’ didnt really go well, he gets kind of buried and then wakes up, now he’s in a different situation than he’s ever been before… The Babylonians, the Sumerians, the ancient civilizations, and suddenly he wakes up in 1983. Now the world’s connected with television and radio. We see it as different civilizations, we see it as “super powers” as he says it, then the non-superpowers, the first world, second world, third, whatever. But to him it’s all just one giant interconnected, overly militarized, screwed up civilization that worships false idols and is self destructive, and needs to be refined and saved from itself.”

SO what are his powers?

Singer:  “He has a number of different powers that he’s acquired over the years as he’s moved from body to body, accumulating these various abilities. One of them is to imbue other mutants and to heighten their powers and abilities beyond anything they ever imagined. Secondly he can shield from psychic powers, he can form shields so that it makes it harder for a psychic like Xavier to tap in and get to them. He’s not a psychic himself though. He can amplify your power, transform you as a mutant but his ability to physically damage, destroy, or build is in the non-biological world. That’s in the physical world, he can change the inorganic molecules of things.

Deadpool opens in theaters February 12, 2016; X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016; Gambit sometime in 2017; Wolverine 3 on March 3, 2017; and an unannounced X-Men film on July 13, 2018. The New Mutants is also in development.

new upcoming Predator film details inside….

Shane Black, who co-starred as Hawkins in the original 1987 Predator had easily one of the best dialogue lines in the entire film, hell in the entire film series when he joked with Sonny Lamhand about the “echo” of his girlfriends deep/big pussy.hqdefault
Since then he has mostly appeared in films in minor roles but has instead made a very successful career as a hollywood writer and director, scripting such 1980s classics as Leathal Weapon one and two, The Monster Squad, an more recently as writer and director of Iron Man 3 and is now looking to return to the Predator franchise as writer and director of the upcoming film “The Predator” which is scheduled for a 2018 release.  Black has said in recent reviews that he plans for the new Predator film to be a “big event”  movie, similar to Iron Man 3 and hoping to breath new energy and life into the lagging franchise.
According to Black, 20th Century Fox convinced him to take charge of the Predator franchise movie forward, even though he freely admitted to not having been overly impressed with certain previous installments in the series (the Alien vs. Predator movies, in particular):
They called me and I was reluctant. I said, “Look. You guys at Fox, I mean, I enjoy these movies, but we’ve been churning out these AVP whatever, they each cost a certain amount of money, they’re okay, but there’s no effort to elevate them or make them any kind of an event.” They’re just sort of another Predator. “Oh, there’s another one that came out.” They said, “What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for.” I said, “Really, you’ll spend a bunch of money?” They go, “Yep.” I go, “Make it really scale, spectacle?” “Yep.” “S***, that sounds interesting.”predator-movie-shane-black1
I think the first one was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was. I think there’s an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator. I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that… they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie. I said, “Let’s really do it right this time.”Arnold-Schwarzenegger-in-Predator
During the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio, the action icon original star Arnold Swartzennager broke the news, revealing to The Arnold Fans that he’s going to have a meeting with Black soon about the new film:
“I haven’t talked with him (Shane Black) yet but I’m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon. Just as soon as I’m finished with this (Arnold’s Sports Festival) and The Apprentice and all this stuff. But I will get together with him. If there is any news, we’ll of course let you know right away. There’s also a meeting coming up soon about Conan, about the project moving forward.”
The Predator is scheduled for release on March 2, 2018

the Mummy reboot will star Tom Cruise

mummy-reboot-2016-tom-cruiseThe Mummy will serve as the starting point for Universal’s relaunch of its monster film universe, with Alex Kurtzman (co-writer of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness) and Fast & Furious writer/producer Chris Morgan working together as the architects for the studio’s rebooted monster cinematic universe. Kurtzman is also directing this new Mummy series installment based on a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (co-writer of Prometheus and the upcoming Doctor Strange); and most recently, Tom Cruise reportedly entered negations to play the (non-mummy) lead in the film.
Reports are now in, stating that Cruise has closed his deal to headline Universal’s Mummy film reboot as (supposedly) an ex-Navy SEAL, with Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Sofia Boutella onboard to play the eponymous monster. Production on the project is still expected to begin early this spring, though Universal has now shifted The Mummy‘s release date – clearly, in response to moves that other studios have made with the release dates for their own 2017 tentpoles.
Variety is reporting that Universal has moved The Mummy from March 24th, 2017 to June 9th of that same year, now that Cruise is “officially” signed on. The move comes on the heels of Disney/Lucasfilm having moved Star Wars: Episode VIII away from late May to December of the same year (with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales now in Episode VIII‘s former spot); in addition, Paramount has dropped the Terminator: Genisys sequel from its official release docket, which has likewise reduced the competition that The Mummy will face in early June 2017. The Divergent Series: Ascendent and World War Z 2 are currently scheduled to arrive on the same date as The Mummy – but since the WWZ sequel only just lost its director (at the time of writing this) odds are it will ultimately be delayed from its current date.

Jason Bourne 5 update

jason bourneJason Bourne will see the addition of Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) to the cast, as well as the return of Julia Stiles – who previously starred alongside Damon in the first three Bourne films. As he spoke about Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander joining Jason Bourne, Damon explained what a big part casting plays in the series.
One thing about these movies is that the casts are so good. I always feel so amazed at the people we get. If we have any kind of formula, it’s hiring the very best actors we can to fill out these roles, and Alicia and Tommy Lee are two absolute heavyweights.
Matt Damon told EW in an interview, Jason Bourne will feel much more like a continuation of the first three Bourne films than an independent addition to the franchise.
This is the completion of this journey that started in the Bourne Identity. It’s part of the first three [movies], it’s not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we’re not saying it’s the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically.

Saw 8 coming soon…?

The Tracking Board is reporting Lionsgate has brought in Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, Piranha 3D) to pen the eighth installment of the horror franchise, titled Saw: Legacy. Details on the storyline – whether it will be a continuation, a reboot, or a prequel – are currently unclear, but Wan and Whannell will serve as executive producers on the film.
Of the seven films, Wan only directed the first, though he worked with Whannell on the story for both Saw and Saw III – with Whannell also writing the script for Saw II. Both remained involved in the franchise as executive producers, but went on to re-team for the Insidious series while Wan also helmed The Conjuring. Wan returned to the latter series for The Conjuring 2, which will hit theaters later this year, and is slated to direct the DC Extended Universe’s Aquaman film thereafter.
