Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book series Movie planned by CBS, directed by Guillermo del Toro

scary-stories-tell-in-dark-movieMany a child of the 1980s and ’90s myself included grew up reading all three installments in author Alvin Schwartz’s spooky tale literature anthology Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which brings various creepy folklore and disturbing urban legends  to vivid life, in no small part thanks to the freaky black and white illustrations by Stephen Gammell (the source of controversy among concerned parents and the American Library Association).

Now, CBS has added a well-known figure in the horror genre to help bring Schwartz’ Scary Stories to life. Seeing as the Hagemans are best known for working on more kid-friendly projects like Hotel Transylvania, The LEGO Movie, and the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu animated TV series it seems now that  del Toro’s Scary Stories film adaptation will be more appropriate for younger viewers than, saw, the vScary-Stories-to-Tell-in-the-Dark-Guillermo-Del-Toro-1050x590ersion that Dunstan and Melton might have put together.CBS has confirmed that filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) has closed a deal to develop the Scary Stories film, and possibly even to direct. Del Toro also mentioned the project on Twitter, calling Scary Stories “a favorite book of youth”
