James O’Barr, while on a panel for a recent comic and toy convention “confirmed” his involvement with the reboot as a creative consultant using the term “re-imagining” to describe the film reboot and “confirm” that actor Jack Huston has been called upon to take the leading role.
He (O’barr) was also quoted as saying his first choice for Shelly – one Jessica Brown Findlay, while not officially signed, was in serious talks for the role and that the film itself was to be a “page-per-page adaptation, with all the visual metaphors. But will have less of a feel of the original 1994 film and more of a tone and feel of “Taxi Driver.” Most interesting was O’barr’s claim that the titular Crow will speak to Eric Draven’s character in this version as in the graphic novel and may be created utilizing stop motion, stressing the need and desire for practical effects.
He finally stated regarding the ongoing development that: “This is the first time in 3 years where I feel like this is actually going to happen and it’s really, really going to be good.”
which is a mouthful of optimism from a man who has generally had an “Alan Moore” quality relationship towards hollywood and its rendering of his creation(s).
